GeomorphIS Team to Conduct Cultural Survey on Angeles National Forest
Angeles National Forest (ANF), California, is proposing to improve and maintain defense zones for administrative sites, recreation sites, and Forest infrastructure within lands administered by the ANF. These sites include recreation residences, communication sites, and campgrounds that currently lack adequate defensible space for protection from unwanted effects of wildfire. The total project area is approximately 6,000 acres; units are spread out across two former Ranger Districts, since merged into the Los Angeles Gateway District and portions of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. In anticipation of future treatment for this defensible space project, the ANF has tasked the GeomorphIS/SWCA team to perform cultural resources Phase I Inventory on the project sites. The GeomorphIS/SWCA team will conduct the surveys and prepare a report in accordance with the conditions of the Amended 2018 R5 Programmatic Agreement among the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5), California State Historic Preservation Officer, Nevada State Historic Preservation Officer, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Regarding the Processes for Compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for the Management of Historic Properties by the National Forest of the Pacific Southwest Regions.
