GeomorphIS Team to Survey Mexican Spotted Owls in Utah

The BLM Utah Kanab District has tasked GeomorphIS/BIOME to conduct Mexican spotted owl (MSO; Strix occidentalis lucida) surveys and habitat suitability assessments on 15 sites in Kane and Washington Counties, Utah. As principal biologist for BIOME, Bryce Marshall will lead a team of experienced MSO surveyors per the conditions of his US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) issued Section 10(a) (1) (a) recovery permit. Determination of habitat suitability will follow the model of Willy and Zambon (2007), other sources, and the insights of local BLM and FWS personnel. Field surveys will take place in 2018.
