The USDA Forest Service (USFS) has issued GeomorphIS a task order, under the Land Management Integrated Resources (LMIR) BPA to conduct heritage surveys on the Angeles and Los Padres National Forests in support of the Region’s Wildfire Crisis Landscapes Strategy (WCS). GeomorphIS and team partner Bargas Environmental will conduct archaeological phase I and II investigations that will support the Forests’ NHPA Section 106 compliance responsibilities: including, pre-field research, record/literature search, data sharing, archaeological permitting, cultural resources survey, recording newly identified site or resources, and updates of any previously recorded sites and/or condition assessments. Implementation and post-implementation support involve marking or flagging resources for avoidance, application of standard resource protection measures, monitoring protection measures effectiveness during implementation, post implementation surveys for areas that were deferred, and recording of any newly identified resources on Forest lands. Additional implementation and post-implementation support involve documenting unanticipated discoveries, conducting damage assessments or support of NAGPRA notifications and participation in associated consultations.
